Three fire departments respond to fire on Hwy. 11

Around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Bracebridge Fire Department responded to a call of a fuel tanker on fire along Hwy. 11 N. near High Falls Rd. in Bracebridge.

Along with a handful of their own trucks, officials with the Town of Bracebridge say the Gravenhurst and Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Departments were called in to lend a hand. In total, 30 firefighters were on scene along with Muskoka Paramedic Services.

No one was injured.

The Ontario Provincial Police closed a section of Hwy. 11 in both directions near the scene. The southbound lanes were reopened  by 3:30 a.m. while the northbound lanes remained closed for most of the day.

All lanes have since been reopened.

Town officials say an environmental spill response contractor was brought to the scene by the tanker company to safely offload the remaining fuel and ensure no hazards negatively affect the surrounding environment.

They say the fire is under investigation.
