Upgraded entrance will make Bracebridge Sportsplex more ‘welcoming’

Muskoka Landscapers Inc. has been approved for an $85,000 project to upgrade the entrance at the Bracebridge Sportsplex.

Will Crowe, manager of facilities for the town, outlined in his April 2 report to Bracebridge’s General Committee, which was later approved by council, Muskoka Landscapers will install new signage, beautify the courtyard, create a new garden bed that will double as a screen from blowing snow, an area for bicycle racks, more places for people to rest, and a narrower entrance “that clearly indicates pedestrian traffic only, while also accommodating authorized vehicles.”

He explained the contract also includes $38,000 worth of in-kind material and labour time from the Severn, Ont.-based business meaning the town only has to cover just over $47,000.

Crowe said when the company submitted its final plan in Dec. 2023, it was realized what was proposed would not be possible with the outlined budget so the in-kind contributions were worked out.

Multiple councillors expressed appreciation for the move, with Coun. Andrew Struthers saying the project will bring “more life” to the Sportsplex entrance.

Crowe said a timeline for the project will be announced soon.
