Cottage Country Cup brings in over $4,000 for Dara’s Fund in Muskoka

Dara’s Fund is getting a big boost from a new golf tournament fundraiser.

Olympic Gold Medalist and Huntsville native Dara Howell was at Deerhurst Resort on Thursday to receive a donation of $4,500 for her charity. The funds were collected during the first run of the Deerhurst Resort’s Cottage Country Cup. Howell says this money will support her dream to help female athletes in Muskoka reach their own goals.

Dara’s Fund is run through the Muskoka Community Foundation and looks to provide grants to female athletes in Muskoka who need help paying for coaching, travel expenses or equipment.

Gord Durnan with the foundation says this fund falls in line with their mandate to support community-focused initiatives.

Durnan says this recent donation has pushed the fund up to $50,000.

Organizers of the Cottage Country Cup say they couldn’t have raised these funds without support from local sponsors and the golfers who took part in the tournament. The second run of this tournament is set for August next year and will feature a par 3 challenge at Deerhurst Lakeside and a two-person challenge at Deerhurst Highlands. If you’re interested in sponsoring the event you can contact Ryan Barry by emailing [email protected].
