Kyle Nelson will travel to Seoul, South Korea for his next UFC fight.
His opponent will be Doo-ho Choi, who was born in Gumi, South Korea. The fighter is in the UFC Hall of Fame’s “Fight Wing” for his three-round unanimous decision loss to Cub Swanson at UFC 206 in 2016. Nicknamed “The Korean Superboy,” he’s dealt with multiple injuries since his last fight in 2019 and comes into the fight with Nelson loser of three fights in a row.
UFC Fight Night 218 will be held on Feb. 4, 2023, at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul, South Korea. Nelson’s fight is one of six that have been announced for the event.
Nelson describes Choi as a “stand-up kickboxer” and believes he matches up well against him. “He’s been a big name in the UFC for a while,” he adds.
Nelson says that both he and Choi come into the fight on losing streaks so they have something to prove. “We’re definitely going to train extremely hard and show the crowd what we’re made of,” Nelson says.
The Huntsville native has lost his last two fights. His last fight, a unanimous decision loss to Jai Herbert in July, was the first of his new four-fight contract that he signed in June.
Nelson has a record of one win and four losses since he joined the UFC in 2018.
“I didn’t really get hit too much or get injured,” Nelson says of his last fight. “I’m ready to go.”
Nelson adds he’s heard from many fans who felt like he beat Herbert and that the judges got it wrong. In situations like that, Nelson says he wants to get right back into the octagon and fight again.
