Community Living Huntsville (CLH) is getting well ahead on holiday preparations.
The not-for-profit is running a card drawing contest to find the design for its yearly holiday card in December. CLH’s Jennifer Jerrett says the theme is “Holiday Magic.”
“We’re trying to stay away from anything sort of denominational so it will appeal to everyone,” says Jerrett. “Something that captures the holidays. Love and peace, and just spreading good cheer and warmth. But we certainly wouldn’t turn down Christmas trees and Santa.”
Jerrett says designs should fit on a standard piece of letter paper and not be too busy, as fine details could be lost when shrunk down to card-size. She says in previous years the design was done by someone supported by the organization, but this year it’s open to anyone 12 and under.
“We’re just opening it up even further,” says Jerrett. “Everyone can participate now, which is great. It doesn’t matter your level of creativity, or if you’re an artist in the making. Everyone is welcome to submit something.”
According to Jerrett, the winning contestant will get $50 in Downtown Dollars and their design will be sent out to hundreds of people at the end of the year.
“Every year we send out thank you cards to all of our donors, our community partners, to those people who have put on events on our behalf, people we have gotten grants from,” says Jerrett. “There’s probably 750 people we send the card out to, for a thank you and to wish them a happy holiday season.”
The submission deadline is end of day on Oct. 31, and more details are available at Community Living Huntsville’s website.
