Dennis Fox, who served with the Muskoka Lakes Fire Department for 55 years, has died.

According to a post on social media by the fire department, he passed away succumbing to occupational cancer. He was 78 years old.

Officials with the fire department say “Denny” was a dedicated volunteer and spent his entire career at the department’s Bala station.

“The loss of Denny leaves a void that will be deeply felt by his family, friends, community, and second home Bala Fire Station 3 of Muskoka Lakes Fire Department,” it says in a statement from the fire department.

Fox is survived by his wife of 54 years, Florance, his two children, and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Bala Community Centre.

The fire department says the family would appreciate it if donations were made to Camp Bucko, a camp for children with burn injuries based in Scarborough, or Andy’s House in Port Carling.

“Our sincerest condolences from all of the Muskoka Lakes Fire Department go out to his family and friends,” it says at the end of the statement.
