The Town of Huntsville has installed a seasonal walkway that connects Fairyview Dr. with the pedestrian crossing at Hwy. 60 and Szawloski Dr.
The six-month agreement will see the town maintain the walkway over the winter. The agreement was announced last month.
Barriers have been put up along with signage to point pedestrians towards the new walkway.
“Thanks to the property owners at 144 Hwy. 60, we were able to provide a pedestrian walkway to the community for the winter,” says Mayor Nancy Alcock. “This cooperation and willingness to lend a helping hand is what Huntsville is all about.”
Since the walkway is being done in cooperation with a private landowner, town officials ask residents to respect that fact and stay within the barriers.
Officials say the idea of the walkway is to keep pedestrians away from the paved shoulder along Hwy. 60. The Ministry of Transportation uses them to store snow so officials say they’re unsafe to use.
When the walkway was announced, Alcock shared town council will work to figure out a permanent solution.
