Coldest Night of the Year sets $100,000 fundraising goal

For the sixth year, the Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) fundraiser will be supporting Gravenhurst Against Poverty (G.A.P.).

The fundraiser happens on Feb. 24, 2024, but Sarah Hiscox, Co-Chair of the Gravenhurst CNOY Planning Committee, encourages anyone wanting to take part to sign up as an individual or with their fundraising team now through CNOY’s website. She adds anyone interested in volunteering can also sign up through the website.

As of Tuesday morning, 29 percent of the $100,000 fundraising goal has already been raised.

“They’re just such a great organization that supports the community in so many different ways,” says Hiscox. She explains G.A.P.’s food program feeds 600 families every week, its transportation program helps get people to their appointments, in addition to the wellness and youth programs they run. “It’s an organization that helps everybody out,” she continues. “Anybody that needs anything, they’re super helpful.”

The walk takes place at the Lions Pavilion at the Muskoka Wharf in Gravenhurst. The event runs from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a pizza party waiting for participants when they return to the Wharf after their 2.5 or 5 km walks. There will also be rest stops along each route.

Hiscox explains the walk happens in hundreds of other locations with each choosing who they want to raise money for.

Last year, close to $140,000 was raised for G.A.P.
