The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation is making sure nobody’s stocking is empty this Christmas.
From 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, volunteers will be at Huntsville’s Canadian Tire taking gift donations for The Table’s clients in the Stuff-a-Truck fundraiser.
Heather Cassie, founder of the non-profit, says they’ll provide shoppers with a list of needed items for all ages. Customers can pick them out based on their budget and donate them to a vehicle waiting outside or make a cash donation to help.
“We are still looking for a large number of gifts to help meet these needs,” says Cassie. “It is a critical piece in order for us to [provide for] these hundreds of people who are in need of gifts this Christmas.”
Cassie says people can sign up with The Table to pick out those gifts for their loved ones at one of two events. Parents and guardians can stop by The Table on Dec. 20 to find a gift for their child, and kids can return the favour or “shop” for their siblings on Dec. 21 after school.
“They’ll be matched with a volunteer who goes around and chooses the gifts with them,” says Cassie. “We have people wrapping those gifts, and those children will be sent out the front door to take those gifts home and put them under their trees.”
Cassie notes that gifts for teenagers are the most needed items, as “they’re the hardest to shop for,” but adds not to forget about the grown-ups either. “We also have a number of adults who are alone at Christmas who we are hoping to give gifts to,” she adds.
