Watershed stewards set to be honoured for going ‘above and beyond’

The Muskoka Watershed Council (MWC) is looking for someone who is one of the “thousands of people who take small actions every day to help keep our watersheds healthy and beautiful.”

The registration process is open now for the Doug Cross Stewardship Recognition Program. MWC officials explain it was launched in 2022 to “help local non-profit organizations celebrate those members that go above and beyond to help protect our watersheds.”

Eligible organizations must register by the end of this month to get a free recognition package, which can be awarded to one of their members for being a good watershed steward.

Registration is available on MWC’s website.

The program was named in honour of former MWC member Doug Cross. He passed away in 2020 at the age of 76 but, before his death, served four years with MWC and spearheaded multiple programs.

Officials explain when he passed away, they received a “generous donation” that allowed them to create the program.

Since it was started, 20 watershed stewards have been recognized for their good work.
