Charity game between Huntsville Otters and firefighters this week

It’ll be a heated match for the Huntsville Otters on Thursday.

The team will hit the ice against firefighters from the Huntsville Lake of Bays Fire Department (HLOB) to raise money for the Huntsville Minor Hockey Association, 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 4 at the Don Lough Arena.

“The [Otters] are on a bit of a heater here, but we’ve got some good guys and girls on our side,” says HLOB Station Chief Matt Young. “We’ve got to sharpen our skills for sure, but we’re going to put on a great show for the town.”

Young says the Otters have a great roster for the match, but not to count out the firefighters just yet.

“I do believe we have a couple of former Otters, some college players, I believe we might even have a player that played overseas at one point,” says Young. “Let’s put it this way—we’re not going to be so much on the prevention side, more on the suppression side. We’re going to be coming out on fire.”

Tickets are 10$ at the door, $5 for seniors or youth, and free for Huntsville Minor Hockey Association members.

“Come on out, support us. All the proceeds are going back to Huntsville Minor Hockey Association, kids in need,” says Young. “It touches close to home to myself and many others. Where there’s hockey or any sport within our community, it raises great young men and great young women, and just propels them to a great future.”
