The New Year has started with good news for Currie’s Music and Antiques.
Andrew Currie, who co-owns the Gravenhurst business with his brother Rob, wrote on social media Tuesday that “after five months of uncertainty” they will be staying at their current location on Muskoka Rd. S.
They were looking at new spaces after their landlord said they may be selling the building.
“Thanks to everyone who offered us support over the past five months of relative panic,” he wrote.
However, the good news for Currie’s means the search resumes for the Town of Gravenhurst.
In Aug. 2023, Gravenhurst agreed to give its thumbs up to offering the Currie brothers a five-year lease with an option to extend, allowing them to set up shop at the Gravenhurst train station at 1501 Second St. S.
Now, Melissa Halford, Director of Community Growth and Development, says they will resume searching for a tenant with one hopefully moved in by the summer.
She asks anyone interested to complete the forms available on the town’s website.
Halford adds the town is in talks with Ontario Northland about having a kiosk in front of the building when the Northlander train returns to service in the mid-2020s. However, she points out nothing is official yet.
