UPDATE: More chats planned to discuss hospital redevelopment project

Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) has scheduled eight more community chats to go over its hospital redevelopment plans.

The schedule includes:

  • Lake of Bays on Jan. 29 at the Dwight Community Centre
  • Gravenhurst on Jan. 30 at the Terry Fox Auditorium in the Gravenhurst Centennial Centre
  • Burk’s Falls on Jan. 31 on the second floor of the Armour, Ryerson and Burk’s Falls Memorial Arena
  • Huntsville on Feb. 1 on the first floor of the Active Living Centre
  • Bracebridge on Feb. 6 at the Bracebridge Sportsplex
  • Port Carling on Feb. 7 at the Port Carling Community Centre

All sessions start at 7 p.m.

There will also be two virtual sessions. The first will be on Feb. 2 at 10:30 a.m. while the other will start at 7 p.m. on Feb. 5. You can sign up for them through MAHC’s website.

According to MAHC officials, the discussions will introduce the “Made-in-Muskoka Healthcare system of the future.”

This will be the third round of information sessions after similar ones were held in April and Jan. 2023.

The hospital redevelopment project will see a new hospital built in Huntsville on the same property where the current building is located. However, where the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital is located in Bracebridge does not have enough room to support the new development.

In Dec. 2023, MAHC announced the new hospital will be built on 300 Pine St. in Bracebridge.

Currently in stage 1.3 of the redevelopment project, MAHC expects to submit its functional program plan to the Ministry of Health by the spring, which would lead them to start the second of four phases.
