Starting the week of May 6, the District of Muskoka says weekly garbage collection will resume, including for summer routes.
Officials with the District of Muskoka say to make sure your garbage is left at the curb of your home by 7 a.m. the morning it’s set to be collected and in a proper container or bag that, among other requirements, can’t be heavier than 55 lbs.
There are also rules on how many bags you can set out every morning.
Officials explain if you have curbside green bin collection, you’re allowed one garbage bag a week in the summer.
However, if you don’t get that service, the limit is two garbage bags a week.
Officials add you’re allowed to set an extra bag out on Family Day, Easter Monday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, the Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
Anyone needing an extra bag can purchase a tag for $8 or $35 for five at any of Muskoka’s transfer stations.
A maximum of 10 bags are allowed per collection day.
Also, leaf and yard waste will be collected during the weeks of May 13 and 27 for urban households. Officials ask you to use paper yard waste bags or containers that can be dumped and reused.
Officials say anyone outside the urban area can deliver leaf and yard waste to any of Muskoka’s transfer stations for free.
