Focus on Imaging Campaign complete thanks to $1M donation

Huntsville Hospital Foundation has concluded its Focus on Imaging Campaign thanks to a $1 million donation from Dr. George and Carolyn Christodoulou.

According to officials, the donation was made through the Christodoulou’s G&C Be Kind Foundation, and it marks the conclusion of the multi-year, $10 million Focus on Imaging Campaign.

For over three years, the foundation has raised funds to equip Huntsville District Memorial Hospital with new imaging and diagnostics technology.

“Carolyn grew up in Huntsville, and now we have a cottage here on Pen Lake,” says George Christodoulou. “We see this as very much our community and our hospital – giving to help the hospital acquire Muskoka’s first MRI made the most sense to us and to our family.”

Officials say in addition to the MRI, other new equipment includes new state-of-the-art X-ray technology, three new ultrasounds, bone density technology, and more. They add construction for the area’s first MRI unit will begin this summer.

“George’s mom had a stroke a few years back,” remembers Carolyn Christodoulou, “so we know how important access to MRI technology is to the local District Stroke Unit. Like the rest of imaging and diagnostics, it is central to all of medicine today. Our Focus On Imaging Campaign gift completes the picture.”

Katherine Craine, Huntsville Hospital Foundation CEO, says both Carolyn and George have made a huge difference in local health care for everyone in Muskoka and can’t thank them enough for the example they set.

With the campaign now coming to a close, she says she’s proud of her community.

“We’re happy everyone in the community gave at the level they were able to give. We know some people stretched in some ways to give a very meaningful gift,” she says. “It feels so good for all of us, the community, the health care providers, everyone who has been a part of this whole campaign. We’re thrilled.”

Craine says the $10M raised is in addition to the over $1M the foundation raises for the hospital every year.

Officials add The Huntsville Hospital Foundation plans to host a Focus on Imaging celebration with campaign donors once the MRI project is complete in early 2025.
