Changes coming to hospital’s board of directors

Dave Uffelmann is set to become the next board chair for Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC).

Moreen Miller has served as board chair since July 2022. She says she will continue as a board member for another year.

Uffelmann has been a board member since 2019 and currently serves as vice chair.

The June 13 board meeting at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital served as the last one chaired by Miller.

“I could not have predicted all of the great things we’ve worked on as a board,” she said. Miller detailed some of the accomplishments of the board since she joined as a member in 2017, including working through the COVID-19 pandemic, continuing to make progress on MAHC’s hospital redevelopment project, and transitioning from Natalie Bubela to Cheryl Harrison as MAHC’s president and chief executive officer.

“We are very lucky to have such a great team,” continued Miller. “Not only are they experts in their specific areas of healthcare, but they have also taken the time to explain complex medical system scenarios to this board collectively and to many of us one on one time and time again. Not being a medical person, I’ve really appreciated that.”

Uffelmann moving to the head of the table wasn’t the only change announced at the meeting.

Harrison said Melissa Bilodeau is leaving her position as MAHC’s director of nursing, clinical services and chief nursing executive to join Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.

She has been with MAHC since 2005. Her last day will be June 28.

“You have been an amazing chief nursing executive,” said Harrison.

She added Diane George, vice president of integrated care, patient services, and quality, will take over the position in the short-term while MAHC’s senior leadership “takes a look at the portfolio” for the position.

MAHC is hosting its annual general meeting on June 24. One of the items that will be discussed is electing new members to the board of directors.
