Huntsville OPP investigating hate-motivated crime

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Huntsville are asking for the public’s assistance to identify individuals in relation to a hate-motivated crime.

Provincial Const. Dana Morris says on Saturday, June 8, a family was walking on the sidewalk near the intersection of Brunel Rd. and Main St. E. when a grey and older model sedan approached the family. They add four occupants in the vehicle called the family racial slurs and spit at them before driving away eastbound onto Main St. E.

“The OPP takes hate-motivated crimes very seriously as they undermine public safety, negatively impact our communities, and can escalate toward criminal extremism. It is important that hate-motivated crimes and incidents are reported to the police, as they are illegal under the Criminal Code,” adds Morris.

She says the investigation is ongoing.

Morris asks anyone with information to call the Huntsville OPP at 705-789-5551 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
