Gravenhurst council is okay with the District of Muskoka-run Corridor 11 bus picking up and dropping off passengers in front of Fire Station 2 at 1030 Kilworthy Rd.
It was approved during the June 18 council meeting.
The bus has four stops in Gravenhurst: the Gravenhurst Centennial Centre, 141 Main St., and 5 Pineridge Gate.
The last location at the Shell Gas Station at 1001 South Kahshe Lake Rd. in Kilworthy is what’s being moved to Fire Station 2.
Andrew Stacey, the town’s director of infrastructure services, says although the stop in Kilworthy has “serviced the transportation provider well,” there are concerns about the availability of parking long-term since it’s on private property.
He explains Hammond Transportation operates the bus and requested the new stop. The bus would only be allowed to park on the east side of the property near the community mailboxes.
“[Fire Chief Jared Cayley] and myself don’t feel it would impact the functionality of the site,” says Stacey.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) will initially be in place for five years with an option to extend it another five.
“Now that we have council direction, next steps would be to develop a MOU with the Corridor 11 bus, which we are hopeful will be in place by the fall,” explains Stacey.
The Corridor 11 Bus runs Monday to Friday between Huntsville and Orillia with stops in Port Sydney, Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Kilworthy, and Washago. It also stops in Barrie at the Georgian College campus, where passengers can catch a ride with Simcoe County LINX.
