Health Unit issues warning for blue-green algae bloom

Our health unit is warning of a blue-green algae bloom on Lake Muskoka
(Weismiller Bay and the northwest shoreline of Moon River).

According to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU), many species of blue-green algae can produce harmful toxins when exposed in large amounts.

The SMDHU also urges residents and businesses to avoid drawing or drinking water from the following impacted water supplies.

• Three Mile Lake (West Shoreline of Hammel’s Bay), Township of Muskoka Lakes 

• Bass Lake (North Shoreline), Township of Oro-Medonte 

• Bonnie Lake (Northwest Shoreline), Town of Bracebridge  

• Lake Muskoka (Weismiller Bay and Northwest Shoreline Moon River), Town of Muskoka Lakes
