Bikers boost Hospice Huntsville to another successful fundraiser

Hospice Huntsville raised $5,631 thanks to its 2nd annual Ride 4 Hospice Huntsville event.

Tracy Badger, events coordinator for Hospice Huntsville, says 91 bikes took part, with many others riding shotgun for the fundraiser on Aug. 3.

She explains Hospice Huntsville has to raise $1,800 each day to continue operating at an appropriate level.

Badger says the money raised during the ride allows them to provide two-and-a-half days of care.

Badger adds she’s grateful for the support they received from outside organizations, too.

“It was the USS Nomad, Star Trek and science fiction fan club. It is a club that is local here in Huntsville, and they do charity work and support a variety of charities, around town,” shares Badger.

She says this is the second year they’ve supported the fundraiser.

“They had 91 bikes, plus many, many passengers, such as myself,” continues Badger. “They wanted to raise more than they had raised the year before – and that was $5,437 – so they exceeded their goal. They’ve raised over $11,000 in the last two years.”

While Hospice Huntsville does get some government funding, Badger says it’s not enough to cover all of their expenses.

“We receive approximately 40 per cent through our government fund,” she explains. “Then we must raise the remaining amount to support our programs and provide services at no cost to those who use our programs and services.”
