A fundraiser promoting positive change for girls, women and gender-diverse people has returned.
Tickets for the YWCA Muskoka online 50/50 are once again on sale, and Laura Sundy, YWCA director of community engagement says they can be purchased online on their website.
“The bigger the pot gets, the more that we get and the more cash you take home,” she says.
Sundy says all of the raised funds will go to support their local programs and services.
“Those programs do things like prevent gender-based violence,” continues Sundy.
Sundy says the past spring, the District of Muskoka declared gender-based violence and intimate partner violence an epidemic.
“YWCA Muskoka supported close to 40 women who were escaping violence last year,” says Sundy. “This is a problem that’s very real across our country and here in our small community.”
She says the organization does not have any consistent source of funding.
“We do all through fundraising and individual program grants that we piece together throughout the year. So fundraising is very, very important for our charity.”
Sundy says tickets are on sale now until October 4, adding the winner will be contacted to claim their cash prize.
