Food4Kids Muskoka is hosting a fundraiser BBQ this Friday to help feed over 400 children in Muskoka.
The event will be held at Giant Tiger in Huntsville from noon to 3 p.m.
Kristie Shaver, Food4Kids marketing and communications manager, says their goal is to start feeding 400 kids per week at the end of Sept.
“When we started last year, we were feeding seven kids in the first week. We ended with 196,” says Shaver.
Shaver says the situation they have seen regarding the food conditions for families are “quite heartbreaking.”
“With the current cost of food and housing, families are struggling so we do our best to bridge the gap from Friday at school to Monday morning,” continues Shaver.
Shaver says with their program Weekends Without Hunger, they pack bags of food every Wednesday which are then delivered to the schools on Friday to school staff. She adds staff then tuck it away in the kids backpacks while they are in class.
“Throughout the year, we have received some beautiful thanks from the families within our program who express how deeply our program has helped their families,” says Shavers.
Shaver says Giant Tiger offered to sponsor the event.
“They have generously donated the food and drinks to offer a delicious lunch to the community,” shares Shaver.
Shaver says if you can’t make it to the BBQ but would like to donate, email transfers are available through [email protected] or on their website.
