Huntsville prepares for the Terry Fox run happening this weekend

It’ll be a busy Sunday in Muskoka as seven Terry Fox Runs will be raising money for cancer research.

Sharon Stahls, organizer of the Huntsville run, says she is looking forward to seeing family, former students, and the entire community come out to support the cause.

The Huntsville run starts at 9 a.m. at the Huntsville High School Parking Lot (58 Brunel Road).

Stahls says local grocery stores have donated some breakfast items for people to pick up when they cross the finish line.

“You decide what you want to do, whether you want to run 500m or 1km or two. It’s not competitive, and it’s all-inclusive,” says Stahls.

She adds she is expecting around 150 people to show up this Sunday.

Stahls says she knows a lot of friends, family and colleagues in Huntsville that have recently passed or have just been diagnosed.

“We want to celebrate those that are with us, those that are no longer with us, but those that are on the battlefield right now of their life,” says Stahls. “Because we all know that when you raise money for cancer research, you raise hope, big-time hope for cancer patients and their families.”

She adds all the money they raise goes to the Terry Fox Foundation adding they want to continue his legacy.

“This young man has such great character and education qualities, and any parent would want their child to emulate those qualities of perseverance, commitment, and empathy,” shares Stahls.

Other runs around Muskoka include on Sept. 15 include:

Algonquin Park

Bala

Mactier

Windermere

Bracebridge
