An over $50 million investment from the province will lead to nearly 3,200 new homes in Huntsville.
The money is from the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund and will help the District of Muskoka’s Huntsville Golden Pheasant Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade, Mountview Sewage Pumping Station new force main installation, and critical water main replacement project.
Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure, was at the Mountview Sewage Pumping Station for the announcement today.
“By investing in drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities and connecting pipes to land, we are helping municipalities build more homes,” says Surma.
She says homes can’t be built without connections to drinking water and wastewater.
“It’s a beautiful part of the province to live in. So, I know it’s probably in very high demand. But we also have a housing crisis ahead of us, and we need to work with our regional governments and our municipalities to make sure that we work to build those homes,” continues Kumar.
Jeff Lehman, District of Muskoka Chair, says the investment is one of the largest ever made by the province in Muskoka.
“It helps us tackle one of the biggest barriers to housing construction – the high cost of servicing,” says Lehman. “This funding ultimately means less pressure on water bills and lower housing costs supporting areas of the district with the greatest need.”
MPP Graydon Smith says this “historic investment” will make life more affordable in Huntsville.
“Under our government, our riding has and continues to receive truly unprecedented levels of provincial government investment. I’m thrilled that Muskoka is receiving over $50 million to make home ownership more attainable for our residents,” adds Smith.
