Huntsville to install video surveillance cameras in hopes of lowering vandalism

Video surveillance cameras are coming to Huntsville’s River Mill Park.

It comes after council unanimously voted for them during the Sept. 9 council meeting after staff presented council reports of vandalism in the community.

According to councillor Monty Clouthier, it continues to be a re-occurring issue costing the Town unnecessary funds.

“I can’t believe this is still happening. The way some people act,” says Clouthier.

He proposed to increase the lighting in the park alongside the video surveillance cameras, especially in the new washroom area, so the camera can be clear.

Councillor Jason FitzGerald says the vandalism issues directly impact taxes.

“It’s about public education and sharing with your neighbours and family that this costs us money,” adds FitzGerald.

Council agreed and directed staff to report back on costing and options for the placement of video surveillance cameras in River Mill Park, including new lighting.
