A local operator is officially one of the safest drivers in the province.
Brad Jackson, an operator with the Town of Bracebridge, took part in the Provincial Safety Truck Roadeo on Sept. 25, and ended third among 44 drivers.
The roadeo was hosted in Peterborough.
“The roadeo was great. It was a lot of fun. An experience I have never had before,” he says.
Jackson was joined by coworker Justin Kilby, who had also earned the right to compete in the provincials.
Jackson says Kilby finished 28th overall, and it was a great experience with both of them representing the town.
Dennis O’Neil, member services coordinator with the Association of Ontario Road Supervisors (AORS), says during the roadeo, the scores were “very close.”
“There are six stages they have to go through, and each one represents what they’re doing out there in an actual snowstorm when they are plowing the roads,” continues O’Neil. “It’s a combination of learning and safety and some friendly competition.”
O’Neil adds first place won, $900, second place $750, and third place, $500.
Jackson says he’s hoping to attend the provincials again next year and improve on his third-place finish.
