Bala Cranberry Festival is celebrating its 40th year in the region

The Bala Cranberry Festival is right around the corner, and this year marks the festival’s 40th anniversary.

The event will be held at 1000 Maple Avenue Bala from Friday, Oct. 18, to Sunday, Oct. 20.

Alannah Oliver, event coordinator of the Bala Cranberry Festival, says this event seeks to extend the life of the tourist season in Muskoka and give back to the community through community grants and bursaries.

“It’s really an important part of local life here in Balla,” says Oliver.

She adds the Cranberry Festival has always had committed volunteers and loyal attendees, who have made it a success for the past four decades.

“This year, we do have more vendors than ever. It’s going to be bigger in that regard,” says Oliver. “There’s going to be new things offered in the kid zone, and we’re really looking forward to that.”

Oliver says some of the things people can expect are handcrafted artisan goods, local wares, carnival-style games, and more.

“The Legion will have food. The United and Anglican Church are also going to be offering food of different kinds, so definitely check them out as well,” she shares.

Oliver adds there is more to enjoy throughout the town beyond the festival grounds, including the Rotary Duck Race and the farmers market at Portage Landing.
