The Table Soup Kitchen in Huntsville is hosting a free Thanksgiving Dinner for seniors who would like a home cooked meal.
The dinner will be held this Monday at Trinity Church from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Lynne Doyle, operations coordinator with The Table, says they normally prepare meals for seniors to take out on Monday night, but this Thanksgiving, they are going to prepare a sit-down meal for them.
She says it is about “fellowship and companionship,” as they know a lot of seniors would be alone for the day.
“Maybe their children can’t come up for the holiday, or maybe they’re just a single senior, and they would like to have some camaraderie that night,” says Doyle.
She says a local songwriter and singer is going to entertain throughout the meal.
“We’ve got just a tremendous amount of turkey and potatoes and salads. And if there’s anything left, they’re welcome to take it home,” shares Doyle.
Doyle adds the church has been “more than agreeable” to almost everything they have needed for the dinner providing the location and the ovens.
“We’re so happy to have everyone, and there’ll be enough food for anyone who shows up,” says Doyle. “We have lots of volunteers to serve the meal, prepare the meal and clean up afterwards.”
