More rental housing supports, helping homeowners, as well as support for small and single-earning households. Those are just some of the issues identified in the recently published Housing Needs Assessment in Gravenhurst.
Council was given the report earlier this week.
Mayor Heidi Lorenz says council is grateful to everyone who played a role in the report, and they look forward to tackling the needs that have been identified.
Work began on the assessment earlier this year with help from SHS Consulting, which compiled and reviewed data.
Melissa Halford, director of development services, says while the town doesn’t have the resources to tackle all of the needs on their own, the assessment does include suggestions about how they can best direct their efforts.
According to the report, that includes ensuring barriers to development like affordable housing, purpose-built rental housing, dwelling units and more are minimized; ensuring the future development of policies, programs, and initiatives reflect the housing need of the community; and much more.
