CMHA opens new location in Gravenhurst

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) has opened its doors in Gravenhurst.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held yesterday (Oct. 17) at 1100a Muskoka Road South. MPP Graydon Smith, minister of natural resources and forestry, Heidi Lorenz, Mayor of Gravenhurst and other town representatives were at the event.

According to Diane Brown-Demarco, executive director at CMHA Muskoka-Parry Sound, the location gives people the opportunity to go and seek their services without the challenges of transportation rural communities face.

“Gravenhurst has been identified over the years as being a place where there’s a higher-than-average need for mental health and addiction supports, with higher-than-average rates of suicide, overdoses, of people accessing services,” said Brown-Demarco.

She said they will provide a wide range of community-based mental health and addiction services, including counselling, crisis and specialized services and more.

The hours of operations are from Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 4:30, but according to Brown-Demarco, that might change in the near future.

“We will be looking forward to, hopefully within the next year, offering evening and weekend services as well,” she says.

Brown-Demarco says she is thankful for all the community support.
