Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department recruiting volunteers

The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department has launched its annual volunteer firefighter recruitment campaign.

Until the end of November, you can submit your application. An information session is also set for next Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Station 1 in Huntsville.

Officials say the department responded to 824 calls so far in 2024.

Paul Calleja, Deputy Fire Chief, says they’re searching for capable women and men looking to enhance their lives through service to the community.

“Protecting lives and property, community engagement and personal growth is what’s in it for you along with the exhilaration that comes from responding to calls,” says Calleja. “Volunteering with the HLOB Fire Department is an amazing way to develop valuable skills and gain experience in ways that may benefit you personally. Also, don’t let the term “volunteer” mislead you. Compensation is given for all training, meetings, activities and responding to emergencies.”

Some perks to serving the community as a volunteer firefighter include a Volunteer Firefighter Tax Credit,  hourly wages and compensations, professional development through a Provincial Fire Fighter Certification and more.

The deadline to apply is November 30th.
