OPP confirms no weapons were involved in schools hold and secure

The OPP is confirming no weapons were involved after two Gravenhurst schools went into a hold and secure yesterday (Nov. 5) afternoon.

Bracebridge OPP says around 12:40 p.m., officers responded to reports from the high school’s administrative team that “several young people attended the school property near Shape St., got into a conflict with students and made threats, referencing a weapon.”

The OPP says no weapon was seen by students.

Officials say that’s when a hold and secure was put in place at both the high school as well as a nearby elementary school.

That means staff and students are not permitted to leave the building, and no one is allowed to enter.

Police say through interviews, the unknown young people were identified and located, and confirmed that no weapons were in their possession.

The hold and secure was lifted by the end of the school day.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call the OPP or Crime Stoppers.
