Santa Claus Charity Ski Show raises over $10,000 for local foodbank

Santa Claus Charity Ski Show raised over $10,000 in cash donations and over 2,500 pounds of food for the Burk’s Falls and District Food Bank.

Scott Waites, founder and organizer of the charity, says the event, which was held last Saturday (Nov. 2) in Kearney, was the biggest they’ve had in their eight years.

“Well over two million people in this country are relying on food banks daily. We’re really happy because the Kearney Santa Claus Charity Ski Show has become the regional food bank the largest single contributor,” Waites says.

Waites says they had the largest parade ever and that it keeps growing every year with more sponsors. He adds close to 3,000 people showed up and participated in the charity event.

“We had people from Windsor that came up and people from Huntsville, Burk’s Balls, Almaguin Highlands and all over the area, and the skiers came from all over the province,” Waites says.

Waites says organizing this type of event gives him a “tremendous feeling of community”.

“It’s really very satisfying to work with such a great group of people,” he says.
