Muskoka Lakes Short Term Rental Accommodations to require license in 2025

Beginning Jan. 1, the Muskoka Lakes Short-Term Rental Accommodations Licensing By-law will come into effect.

Officials say all property owners operating a short-term rental accommodation will be required to obtain a license with the Township on an annual basis regardless of how long the operation has been in existence.

Mayor Peter Kelley says they hope it will help maintain community character while also ensuring rental properties protect the environment and are safe for occupants.

He adds council anticipates that implementing the by-law will lead to a decrease in the number of community concerns.

The township will be hosting a virtual webinar to share information about the program on December 10th. Officials add applications for the licenses will be accepted in early 2025, with an additional update to be provided then.
