If you’re a Huntsville resident, it looks like your taxes are going to go up.
At a general committee meeting on Tuesday (Nov. 12), council reviewed and approved the consolidated 2025-26 Draft Budget, which sees a 4.84 per cent tax rate increase next year and a 4.87 per cent increase in 2026.
According to the report, the tax increase would result in an assessment growth of approximately 2.59 cent for 2025 and 2.11 per cent for 2026, meaning if your home is assessed at $300,000, you could see an estimated increase of about $107 next year and $111 in 2026.
The 2025-2026 Budget Survey the Town conducted in September says 55 per cent felt there is a good value for the taxes they pay, while the rest said they would rather see taxes maintained or decreased.
Council managed to save the taxpayer some money by eliminating some new hire positions, as well as postponing some construction for review until funding can be found.
Staff will now release an updated consolidated budget with the amendments, which still needs to be ratified by council.
