The newly renovated Lake of Bays Community Centre in Baysville is now open to the public.
An opening ceremony was held yesterday (Nov. 25) with town representatives and community members.
Scott MacKinnon, Superintendent of Parks and Facilities with the Township of Lake of Bays, says the renovations are an effort to attract more rental opportunities to the community centre.
“We’re trying to get a place where people within the community want to come and celebrate and have weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, dances, whatever. We want to bring them here,” says MacKinnon.
He says two years ago, council challenged the community to raise $25,000 for Operation Facelift and renovating the community centre.
“The community raised just under $40,000, and the township threw in the rest through the budget process in 2023 and 2024,” adds MacKinnon.
He says the community center hadn’t been renovated since it was built in 1979.
MacKinnon says the project cost under $200,000. Some of the renovations include bathroom upgrades, flooring, ceilings, painting, and more.
“We’ve created a space here that’s completely usable and really affordable for people to come and enjoy,” shares MacKinnon.
