UPDATE: OPP continues to clear secondary roads off HWY 11, preparing for more snow

UPDATE: 1:00 p.m. :: Huntsville OPP says weather and road conditions continue to deteriorate.

They’re urging the public to avoid non-essential travel, adding more vehicles on the roads puts more people at risk, and additional challenges when it comes to snow removal.

The OPP says officers are working with the province, municipalities, and the fire department in order to stay on top of the snowfall.

In the Bracebridge area, Houseys Rapids, Uffington, Southwood and Beiers roads continue to be closed – along with the northbound ramp at Luigi Road.

There are no road closures in the Huntsville Detachment area at this time, but the OPP says be alert as road conditions can change quickly.

The OPP says officers and emergency crews continue to clear snow off of Highway 11’s secondary roads as everyone prepares for more snowfall in Huntsville and Lake of Bays.

Police say Huntsville is expected to receive “significant snowfall” between today (WED) and Friday. They’re urging everyone to avoid non-essential travel this week.

The OPP is reminding motorists to ensure they’re prepared for any situation by having an emergency kit in the vehicle, and to have top up the gas tank.

If you find yourself stranded on roads – the OPP says remain calm, stay in your vehicle until officers or other rescuers are able to reach you.

If you are in a life-threatening situation, call 9-1-1. Please call the OPP non-emergency number, 1-888-310-1122, for all other matters.
