The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation is gearing up for the annual Stuff a Truck event to help those in need in the community.
The event runs this Saturday (Dec. 14) in Huntsville at Walmart, Canadian Tire and Giant Tiger starting at 9 a.m.
Heather Cassie, founder of the foundation, says the purpose of this event is to get the community involved in helping to meet the needs of “various table guests.”
“Especially our young guests. The children we serve. Hundreds of kids here at the table on a weekly basis are looking for help, for gifts for Christmas, and to be able to give their siblings gifts as well,” Cassie says.
She says they are grateful to be able to stand outside the stores to speak with customers and ask for their support with items for their Gifts for Kids program happening on Dec. 18 and kids Christmas Shopping happening on Dec. 19.
“There will be some food items that we’ll be looking for, especially treats so that we can give treats for our Gifts for Adults program,” she continues.
She says there are a lot of adults that are alone at Christmas or who don’t get to see family.
“We love to be able to provide them with a treat or a toiletry item or something like that, or even knitted items or happiness scarves,” Cassie says.
Cassie adds they will have multiple community volunteers helping them out throughout the day.
“We’ll be handing out a sheet of paper to shoppers as they’re going into the stores and asking if they’d be able to find something on the list and donate to help us out,” she says.
