To start the year, the Huntsville Junior C Otters are hosting a charity game to support kids in need in the community.
The game will kick off at 7 p.m. on Jan. 2 at the Don Lough Arena.
Kelly Farnsworth, secretary with the Huntsville Otters Jr. C Hockey Team, says they want to help kids with registration and the expenses associated with hockey.
“We are raising funds to support kids in need with Huntsville Minor Hockey to help kids play hockey that might not normally get the chance to play,” says Farnsworth. “We’re having Huntsville Minor Hockey president come out and do a ceremonial puck drop before the game.”
She says this is their second year partnering with the firefighters, adding last year, they had “lots of fun and good success.”
“At our regular games, we usually have anywhere between 300 and 500 people come out. So I’m hoping we get a good crowd out,” shares Farnsworth.
According to officials, last year, the event raised almost $3,000.
Farnsworth says this is the team’s first game after the break of the holiday season, adding they plan to make this an annual event, holding it around the same time each year.
“The gates will be open about an hour before the game, and tickets can be purchased there. Adult for $10, and seniors and students are $5 each,” says Farnsworth.
Farnsworth says there will be a cash bar available in the lobby along with chuck-a-puck and pop-corn sales.
