Silver Bridge continues to be closed for structural assessment

The District of Muskoka says a timeline for the reopening of Silver Bridge remains uncertain.

Officials say during routine sidewalk maintenance, Bracebridge staff identified unusual issues clearing the snow on the bridge and notified District staff.

The District’s Road Operations team attended the site and observed a shift in the bridge that was not present when it was last inspected in November of 2024.

A structural engineer was brought in to assess, recommend the next steps, and determine the cause.

Commissioner of Engineering and Public Works, James Steele, says they’re being proactive to reduce the load on the bridge and safeguard both the public and the iconic infrastructure.

He adds they know how important the bridge and its history is to the community, so extra efforts are being made to keep everyone informed as they learn more and work on repairs.

Alternative routes have been identified to minimize disruptions to and from the downtown.
Updates will be shared as they become available.
