The Roads License Agreement Program in Lake of Bays has been repealed.
The program, which extended requirements to include existing roads and driveways built on municipal road allowances raised concern with local residents and property owners alike. After feedback, a 180 day moratorium, public meetings and more, the plan has changed.
Some of the changes include re-writing the terms of agreement to address new access only during construction, as well as removing the requirement for renewal and annual fees.
Mayor Terry Glover says the issue has been difficult for those affected and is apologizing for the hardships the program may have caused, along with the frustration and uncertainty experienced.
Glover says councils have an important role in shaping policing that serve communities, and when policy causes division or damaged the relationship between the public and the township, they’re responsible for reassessing and making things right.
