The Bracebridge Fire Department responded to 30% more calls in 2024 than it did the year before. That’s according to the department’s recently published annual report.
Officials say the increase is heavily due to weather related emergencies and increased public safety concerns which last year caused 396 fire related incidents.
Other highlights include a 172% increase in fire safety inspections, over 2600 training hours for firefighters, as well as equipment and infrastructure upgrades like a new 2,500-gallon tanker truck or the advancement of plans for the new Station 2.
Michael Peake, Deputy Fire Chief, Bracebridge Fire Department says “This year, the Bracebridge Fire Department focused on expanding response capabilities, strengthening community engagement, and ensuring firefighters have the resources and training needed to excel in a variety of emergency situations. We remain committed to protecting the residents and visitors of Bracebridge with the highest level of service.”
Officials add that the smoke and carbon monoxide alarm door-to-door campaign also expanded, firefighters visited 274 homes, to further strengthen the importance of fire safety education across all neighborhoods.
For this year the focus is to continue to improve, innovate, and collaborate to ensure the highest standard of emergency services.
