Christina Nadalin from Huntsville has won her eighth golden medal in ringette.
Nadalin competed with the Toronto team in the 18+AA Ringette Provincial Championships from Feb. 27 to March 2.
“We didn’t make it easy on ourselves because we went into the tournament ranked so low. We had to play all of the top teams,” says Nadalin. “We were able to come off undefeated.”
She says they only had one tie against Durham, but they dominated their opponents in every other game.
Nadalin says the journey to the championship was not easy, as the team wasn’t doing too well at the start of the season.
“In our first two tournaments, we didn’t even make the semi-finals or the finals,” she says. “It wasn’t until around the start of February or the end of January that we started picking things up.”
Nadalin, who started playing Ringette when she was 5, grew up playing in Guelph, as she says the sport has not been that popular in Muskoka.
“I know that the Muskoka Royals have been coming up in the last few years, so it does feel special to be able to represent Muskoka,” says Nadalin.
She says she has contacted the team about potentially coaching them next year.
“I’d love to see ringette improve up this direction because it was invented in North Bay, so to see ringette in this area really thrive would be amazing,” adds Nadalin.
Nadalin says she plans to continue playing in next year’s championships.
