Women of Distinction Awards raise over $33,000 for YWCA Muskoka

The 19 Women of Distinction Awards raised over $33,000 for YWCA Muskoka.

Officials say last Saturday (March 8) 150 people attended the event featuring, 31 nominations, and six recipients.

Laura Sundy, Director of Community Engagement with YWCA Muskoka says the event was celebrated on the perfect day, as it was held on International Women’s Day.

“Sometimes those contributions fly under the radar in our community. And it’s really important to recognize how much women really give back and make this community a better place,” says Sundy.

She says the event and the funds collected mean a lot for the organization as they do not have any core funding from the government and rely on donations.

“The more that we can fundraise, the more that we can do for the community and make sure that some of those important gaps are filled,” says Sundy.

She says last year, the organization served 850 people and ran 50 programs across the region.

Here are the winners:

Britney Hammell was the recipient of the Young Woman of Distinction Award for being 30 years old or younger and making significant contributions to her school, community, and/or workplace.
