The province’s police watchdog says the officer who struck a pedestrian in Bala in Sept. of 2024 did not commit a criminal offense in connection with the man’s death.
The Special Investigations Unit shared the news today (March 28), as the investigation has now concluded.
It was launched in late September, after a 25-year-old man was hit by a vehicle operated by an OPP officer on Muskoka Road 169. The man was transported to hospital and pronounced deceased.
Director Joseph Martino says on his assessment of the evidence, there are no reasonable grounds to believe a criminal offence was committed, and the file is closed.
