Utility and town crews are out in full force as restoration efforts continue all across the region.
That from Bracebridge Mayor Rick Maloney, who says utility crews reconnected thousands to power over the weekend, though some of the more rural areas of the area are still without.
Maloney says as Lakeland and Hydro One crews continue to clear out fallen trees and branches on their lines, so too is the Public Works Department, who’s out and cleaning debris from the roads.
Though Mother Nature has warmed up overnight and into this morning, Maloney is still advising residents to stay home if they can and to avoid unnecessary travel.
“The Muskoka Lumber Community Centre and the Sportsplex are both open for anyone needing respite from not having power,” he adds.
Maloney adds the Bracebridge Fire Department responded to nearly 50 calls last night alone and continue to do so. He adds volunteers have also been staying at Station One in order to quickly respond to requests for service.
The Mayor says the emergency control group is set to meet later today, and wellness checks for those who have been without power for days will be on the agenda.
In this next phase of the storm, he’s encouraging residents to check on their neighbours, and keep the vents cleared around your home.
