Utility crews continue restoration efforts, less than 1,000 without power in South Muskoka

Thanks to efforts from utility crews, less than 1,000 homes and businesses remain without power in the Bracebridge area.

Lakeland Power is now showing only 956 remain without.

Lakeland Officials say about 100 of those will have power back by 3 p.m. today, adding those in Southwest Bracebridge near Lake Muskoka are estimated to have power restored by noon tomorrow.

“This completely depends on the ability for Hydro One to restore some main power feeders – they are working as quickly as they can and will be supported in their efforts as more help arrives to the area,” say officials.

According to officials, they are working with Hydro One to repair the line that services Lakeland customers and are repairing their circuits to make a timely restoration once Hydro One energizes.

Hydro One meantime says crews have restored power to more than 637,000 customers since the start of the storm.

That is according to the utility’s Tiziana Baccega Rosa, who says there are still nearly 276,000 customers without power as of this morning.

She says due to the widespread damage caused by the storm, they expect restoration in the hardest hit areas to continue throughout the week adding road access continues to be a challenge in those areas, along with safety concerns of tree branches and limbs coming down.

Baccega Rosa says crews have identified multiple types of damage on some lines that need to be addressed before power can be restored.

“Crews are focused on restoring the main lines that run from the local stations to the community,” says Baccega Rosa. “Then they will be able to focus on clearing damage from lines that serve smaller groups of customers to get the power back on.”
