District of Muskoka temporarily removes fee to dispose storm brush

The District of Muskoka is offering a temporary fee relief period for residents looking to dispose of chippable wood and brush.

Renee Recoskie Director, Waste Management and Environmental Services, says it applies to all transfer stations excluding Ridout (Dorset), McLean (Baysville) and Sinclair in Lake of Bays.

If you’re going to transfer stations, Recoskie is reminding you to enter and exit over the scales, as the information is tracked for emergency management efforts.

She adds there are no diameter restrictions when it comes to the storm brush, but it is required to be cut in four foot length, and stumps also won’t be accepted.

When it comes to food waste, Recoskie is advising to make sure you’re disposing waste as much as possible with the green bin program, as it is picked up more frequently and there isn’t a limit on green bin material set out for collection.

If you have too much food to manage at the curb, she says you can transport it at all to transfer stations free of charge, to be disposed at the organic earth bins, with the only exception being raw meat, which Recoskie says should be thrown in the garbage.
