Flood warning extended across region

The flood warning in effect for our area has been extended.

The Ministry of Natural Resources says the Bracebridge, Minden and Parry Sound districts will now be under a flood bulletin until April 11.

Officials say residents should expect water levels to rise and river flows to increase in the coming week.

Those who have been affected by high water and flow conditions in the past should continue to take necessary action to protect and secure any vulnerable property in proximity to rivers and lakes.

“Lake water levels are rising and river flows are increasing with recent precipitation and runoff,” officials say. “The melting snowpack within the watersheds is anticipated to contribute to increased runoff as a result of the recent precipitation and warmer daytime temperatures.”

They also say that high water levels combined with a forecast for high winds have the potential to damage shoreline infrastructure due to moving ice.
