The District of Muskoka is still taking action to support storm recovery across Muskoka since the recent ice storm.
Officials say at the emergency meeting on Friday (April 4) they established a special working group with authority to coordinate the collection, management, and disposal of storm-related debris. They are also exploring the extension of this year’s leaf and yard waste collection and continuing to offer free brush drop-off at transfer stations across Muskoka.
Free Brush and Chippable Wood Drop-Off
District officials say that waste facilities will accept brush and chippable wood with no charge at least until April 30, 2025. (excludes Rideout and McLean due to space).
They add that brush must be cut into pieces no longer than four feet and oversized logs or stumps will not be accepted.
Additional Yard Waste Collection
Officials of the district explain, to help ongoing cleanup, they are finalizing plans to extend yard waste collection this year and the additional weeks will focus on material that can be bundled for collection through the curbside yard waste program.
They say the dates and service areas will be shared soon and until then residents who want to get a head start on clean up can have it stacked on private property and not on the roads or sidewalks.
Food Donations
Officials are asking those who may be in a position to provide support to consider donating non-perishable food items to their local food bank since many people are experiencing food loss due to prolonged power outages.
Support for Critical Fuel Deliveries
District officials have confirmed that it is not enforcing half load restrictions for essential service delivery and restoration as our community recovers.
